When you go into SwitchResX, go into your monitor tab and set the startup resolution as 1920x1080, and the Scaled Resolution Base as 3840x2160. Reboot and go into SwitchResX from System Prefs. Go into terminal and turn SIP off (csrutil disable, then enter your password). Shut down the Mac mini, then turn it on again, not letting go of the power button until the recovery option appears. Then, we need to disable SIP to make SwitchResX work initially. ![]() First, download SwitchResX and install it. (Please bear in mind that I'm using the paid version, haven't tested with the free one). You'll have working HiDPI at this point, but as soon as you log out the problem will return. ![]() Select one of the options, then change the orientation back. After that the resolution list should change into scale options like the ones you see on macs with built in retina displays. Then, set one of the vertical options and confirm the change. I tried several 'fixes' for this for months to no avail, forcing me to use HDMI, but I finally found the fix.įirst, select the 3840x2160 option in display prefs. I attempted to fix this problem by using a USB-C to DP cable (which it did), but macOS didn't present the HiDPI options, despite supporting the full 2160p resolution, forcing me to deal with tiny text at 4K or using the 1080p low res mode which was less than ideal.
